Tracey Adkins Unconscious Bias - It took me ages to get to typing as so much was whirring round my mind to write about since the book launch.  Should I keep it light?  big the book up? talk about how amazing Alex is? or should I bring up important issues that this book brings to the table, like love, connections, communication, non-judgment and acceptance?

So, I've decided to tell you about my 'unconscious bias' experience that this book made me more aware of.

My brother is a 62 year old neurodiverse man living in a care home, I asked one of his carers if anyone reads within the home and she told me the young person that I would least expect...non verbal autistic..is the reader !!!  This was the moment I became very aware of my own 'unconscious bias'.   I had met this person and from the outside you would think there is no way of communicating, how wrong was I in that moment.  If you can read, you can communicate, they will be getting a copy of Good Night Diary.

The point of that experience is that we all have an 'unconscious bias' , within 4 seconds we judge someone, within that 4 seconds our brains compute what is before us.  I urge us to think beyond that 4 seconds because that 4 seconds judgment is quite often wrong.

Good Night Diary is a tool for communication and awareness as well as a heartwarming story of a young man trying to negotiate life.

If you have read the book please contact us and let us know if it evoked a feeling in you... tell us YOUR STORY
